The difference between design and art is central to my practice. When I work on design pieces, such as woven area rugs, everything is planned and drafted in advance. I carefully control how each yarn interacts in a systematic way. Yet sometimes a missed thread or altered treadling creates a new weave, which I often prefer.
When I make art, I work without drafting or a fixed plan. Shape and pattern emerge through mistakes, additions and adjustments, until the texture feels right and reflects my thoughts through the making.————————————————————

Leftover and discarded yarns from my rug production find a second life as art. With every rug woven, new possibilities emerge, allowing my practice to come full circle in ecological consciousness.

This 4 x 6 meter hand-stitched and embroidered three-dimensional textile art wallpiece was created by Beyond Living, based on a sketch of Krachow Sita (Aristolochia indica) by illustrator Pomm Jitpratuk.

All the cotton and silk fabric used in this artwork is sourced from Her Majesty the Queen’s SUPPORT Foundation (The Foundation for the Promotion of Supplementary Occupations and Related Techniques).

The Krachow Sita is a flowering creeper vine found
attached to tree trunks in the forests of Thailand and is also a popular ornamental plant. The nuance of femininity is evocative of Sita, the avatar of Lakshmi and the embodiment of perfect womanhood in the Ramayana epic; she is the lover and soulmate of the epic’s hero Rama, incarnation of Vishnu.
