Beginning with structure,

we reconsider
the possibilities between garment and body.

Asymmetrical divisions redirect the flow of drape,
while gathers transform flat fabric
into new lines beyond the body.

When clothing no longer exists
simply to conform to the body,

structure becomes
a medium between body and space.

And wearing,

becomes a process
through which form continues to unfold.

Beginning with an understanding of the cicada’s morphology,
we reconsider structures that exist beyond the body.

Rather than reproducing the contours of a living organism,
we translate the extension of the cicada’s wings,
the enclosure of its shell,
and the order within its articulated structure
into the length, volume, and spatiality of clothing.

The proportions between front and back are reconfigured,
allowing the garment to extend beyond the body.

The fabric no longer simply conforms to the human form,
but generates new silhouettes through movement.

Here, nature is not an image,
but a method of construction.

Clothing, then,
becomes a continuously shifting interface
between the body and nature.
