Panforte, a Tuscan pie with nuts and dried fruits
Panforte or "peppery bread" is such an ancient Italian dessert that the history of its creation has become overgrown with many legends. A classic Siena recipe should have 17 ingredients. According to the Tuscan recipe, there are a little less of them in panforta - 14: the obligatory nuts, dried fruits, honey, zest and oriental spices, thanks to which the pie got its name. By the way, if you add chocolate to the recipe, you get panforte al cioccolato, which Italians themselves often call panforte delle dame - panforte for ladies, because of its softer taste.
