We're not sure when or why our favorite

At the same time, publishers are also scrambling to get their own editions of the report into bookstores and onto ebook platforms as quickly as possible. Skyhorse Publishing, Scribner, Melville House, Audible, and Barnes & Noble will all be publishing their own editions of the final report. Some ebook editions could arrive as soon as tomorrow (Scribner confirmed to The Verge that it expects to release its edition Friday), while print editions could take up to two weeks. Skyhorse has said that it plans to begin shipping its print edition “about 7 days from release,” while Scribner has said that it hopes to have its print edition out by April 26th. Melville House wants its version out “in no more than 10 days,” while Barnes & Noble says that its “special editions with related materials in print” will hit stores the week of the April 29th. Audible lists its edition for April 30th.

Amazon is keeping the base model Kindle distinct from the Paperwhite, feature-wise. It’s still stuck with a 167ppi display, instead of the crisper, clearer 300ppi panel found on both the Paperwhite and Oasis, and the screen still is recessed instead of flush with the front of the device. It’s also the only Kindle in the lineup that isn’t waterproof.

You should probably just invest in a Paperwhite, though.

The first edition of the book is a fascinating historical record when compared to the scale of the global franchise it would go on to spawn. It contains a couple of typos including one on its rear cover where “Philosopher’s” is misspelled as “Philospher’s,” and another where a list of equipment includes a repeated line. It’s an inauspicious start to what would go on to become one of the best-selling books of all time.

AMC has released the first trailer for its upcoming adaptation of Joe Hill’s horror novel, NOS4A2. The network also announced that the series will premiere alongside the next season of Fear the Walking Dead on June 2nd, 2019.

First published in 2013, NOS4A2 follows the story of Victoria “Vic” McQueen (played by Ashleigh Cummings in the series), who discovers that she has a supernatural ability to find lost things by riding her bike across a strange bridge. She crosses paths with a man named Charlie Manx (played by Zachary Quinto), who kidnaps children to take them to supernatural place called Christmasland, where he feeds off of their souls and corrupts them. Vic was the only child to have ever encounter Manx and escape and those experiences have haunted her later in life. Year later, Manx has found a new child to spirit away to Christmasland: her son.

UntilUntil recently, if you were a writer who had a novel or other work, there was essentially a single path to follow: you tried to find an agent who liked your writing, and who would be able to sell it to a publisher. The process could take months or years — assuming you were able to get on that merry-go-round at all.

It’s easy to publish a file. It’s hard to do it well.

Starting today, Microsoft is ending all ebook sales in its Microsoft Store for Windows PCs. Previously purchased ebooks will be removed from users’ libraries in early July. Even free ones will be deleted. The company will offer full refunds to users for any books they’ve purchased or preordered.

Ebooks will no longer be accessible as of July 2019.

One of the biggest fantasy novels of 2019, Black Leopard, Red Wolf, comes from Man Booker award-winning author Marlon James. Inspired by African folklore, James’ latest novel has earned considerable acclaim since its release earlier this year. Next week, he will appear at the Jean Cocteau Cinema in Santa Fe, New Mexico, to discuss the book with Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin, and it will be moderated by Andrea L. Mays.

With this new partnership, Wattpad will essentially give Sony a heads-up when it comes to projects that might make for a good TV series. According to Wattpad, the two companies will “work together to identify and develop popular narratives from the half a billion story uploads that have been shared on Wattpad,” and Sony will have access to data from Wattpad’s machine learning efforts that help it churn through the site’s uploads, identifying what stories have potential in other media formats.

Over the course of eight books, The Expanse has felt a bit like one of those videos that zooms out from Earth into the larger universe. Part of the appeal of Leviathan Wakes and Caliban’s War was that they were a space opera set in our local neighborhood, dealing with issues that are relevant to the world we now live in: war, racism, justice, all accompanied by power armored-marines, spaceship battles, and a menacing alien threat.

I picked up two books about the modern state of Star Wars recently. The first is Making Solo: A Star Wars Story by Industrial Light and Magic supervisor Rob Bredow. The book is an exhaustive behind-the-scenes look at how the last Star Wars movie came together through Bredow’s photographs, looking at the locations, actors, props, and special effects process. It also wasn’t the exhaustive look in the vein of J.W. Rinzler’s trilogy of books for the original films, neatly sidestepping the drama that occurred during production.
