Château de la Roche Courbon, located in Charente-Maritime, France, was originally built as a medieval fortress in the 15th century. During the 17th century, it was transformed into a Renaissance-style château by Jean-Louis de Courbon, who enhanced its elegance with gardens and refined architecture. By the 19th century, the château had fallen into disrepair and was abandoned, but it was saved from ruin in 1920 by the writer Pierre Loti, who spearheaded its restoration. The château is renowned for its picturesque French gardens, which were restored in the 1930s, and for the prehistoric caves found on the estate. Today, it stands as a symbol of French heritage, open to the public for tours and events.
