The Spaniards' excessive addiction to meat can be judged by the variety of types of jamon and sausages, which are very popular in Spanish gastronomy, as well as their per capita consumption. Contrary to popular beliefs, there are much more meat dishes in Spanish cuisine than fish dishes. Until the 16th century, thanks to the influence of the Arabs, the Spaniards most often ate lamb. Today, the main ingredients of Spanish meat dishes are pork, chicken, turkey and game. In Spanish meat dishes, they can be found dried, stewed, baked, in soups or on fire.
