In Germany, 11 million tons of food ends up in the trash every year - an average of 55 kilograms of food per person. And this is only a waste of private households. And how much food is thrown away by cafes, restaurants and supermarkets!
To combat such waste, the German Ministry of Food and Agriculture is running a competition called "Too Good for the Dump" (Zu Gut für die Tonne!). Participating in it are supermarkets, large manufacturing firms, startups, charities and community initiatives that save food.
