The latest fanzine 004: FASHION CRAFT REVOLUTION features BATIK.
“The art of batik is intertwined with Indonesian identity and its designs draw on a variety of cultural influences from the archipelago and well beyond its shores. It is a visual means of communication, imbued with symbolism through technique, motif and colour. When an artisan creates a wax design, it is not only fixed to the cloth but it is said that through the mbatik manah experience of making batik, the design is drawn on the artisan’s heart.”
Batik is featured in our directory of Intangible Cultural heritage in our latest fanzine: FASHION CRAFT REVOLUTION.

Our latest fanzine 004: FASHION CRAFT REVOLUTION is a beautifully designed and illustrated 104-page issue that cleverly explains how craft intersects with the identity and culture of communities the world over. The fashion industry has spent more than thirty years obsessed with speed, volume and identical flawless production, whilst slow, ancient crafts with their individual variations are increasingly undervalued. Consequently, the diversity of our global craft heritage is disappearing. Within the issue, we commemorate the heritage stories of global crafts and celebrate the revolutions taking place in the age of the Anthropocene.
