This 3-piece outfit comprises of a mini dress, a veil and a head accessory. This dress is made from waste that have been upcycled and recycled. The design represents how vaccination boosts our antibody response to fight against viruses.
The “Y" shaped designs on the dress represent the antibodies that the body produces following vaccination, whereas the calabashes represent viruses that the antibodies are protecting against.
The main fabric is the black and brown barkcloth fabric which is got from trees and is extremely ecofriendly. The barkcloth in this context signifies the body and soul of an African mother.
Women who are pregnant can be offered the vaccine to protect against the COVID-19 virus, but in the future it may be possible to vaccinate women against another virus called RSV, which will protect their babies RSV infection which causes breathing problems in babies. So this design represents both present and future hopes for protection of women and their babies.
