A New Chapter in Design

My Hawaii Lifestyle ▶︎ NINA THAI | Hawaii Fashion

I shared a little about this new collection during my Instagram Live.

Over the years, I’ve designed patterns inspired by pineapples, palm leaves, palm trees, monstera, hibiscus, and so many parts of Hawaiʻi’s nature.

For this collection, I wanted to try something new—bringing together the feeling of French art with the nature of Hawaiʻi.

And for the first time, I added the name of my brand into the pattern in my own handwriting.

It feels like putting a little piece of myself into the design.

これまでパイナップル、椰子の葉、椰子の木
モンステラ、ハイビスカスなど
ハワイの自然からたくさんのデザインを生み出してきました

今回はフランスのアートの表現と
ハワイの自然を組み合わせたオリジナルデザイン

そして初めて
自分の手書きでブランドの名前をパターンの中へ

今までとは少し違う
私自身をより深く込めたコレクションになりました

Between Hawaiʻi & Japan

Being able to travel between Hawaiʻi and Japan is something I never take for granted.

It’s possible because so many people continue to love and support our brand.

Every time I arrive at the airport, I feel a special energy—the excitement of people coming and going, new journeys beginning, and possibilities waiting ahead.

For me, the airport always feels like a place where something new is about to begin.

Fashion Is Inspiration

“For me, getting dressed is another way of deciding how I want to feel today.”

People often ask me, “Do you always wear your own brand?”

Actually, no.

I love fashion, so I want to experience different designs and discover the work of other designers too.

You don’t truly understand how a piece feels until you wear it, style it with what you already own, and make it your own.

As a designer, I believe staying curious about fashion is part of continuing to grow and create.

よく聞かれますが
実は、そうでもないんです

私はファッションそのものが大好きだから

自分で着て、感じてみたい

実際に袖を通して

Hawaiʻi Through Different Eyes

I’m always fascinated by how differently people see and express Hawaiʻi.

The same ocean, flowers, mountains, and island life can become something completely different through each artist’s eyes.

Art is self-expression, and living in Hawaiʻi continues to enrich the way I see colors, shapes, and beauty around me.

For me, this island is an endless source of inspiration.

同じハワイを見ていても
表現の仕方は人それぞれ

海、花、山、日常の景色
それぞれの目を通すと
まったく違うアートになる

そんな多様性に心を惹かれます

アートは自己表現
そしてハワイは、私の「見る目」を豊かにし
新しいインスピレーションを与え続けてくれる場所

Keep Showing Up

Sixteen years ago, I didn’t know exactly where this journey would take me.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned as a business owner is simple: keep showing up.

Listen to your customers, learn from your mistakes, and don’t be afraid to change when something no longer works.

A business grows, but you have to be willing to grow with it.

Rest Is Part of Creating

Running a business taught me that resting is also part of creating.

When I’m always thinking about the next design, the next decision, or what needs to be done, sometimes the best ideas come when I simply slow down.

A quiet moment by the ocean, a walk, or time surrounded by nature gives my mind space to create again.

The moment I saw the finished ʻŌhiʻa Lehua design, my heart skipped a beat.

Behind this one design were so many conversations, ideas, changes, and moments of trial and error.

As a designer, seeing something that once existed only in our imagination finally come to life is always special.

完成した姿を見た瞬間、胸が高鳴りました

ここまで来るまでに
何度も話し合い、アイデアを出し合い
試しては変えての繰り返し

デザインは完成した一枚だけではなく
そこにたどり着くまでの時間も大切な一部

だからこそ、形になった瞬間の喜びは特別です

Seasons in Hawaiʻi

Living in Hawaiʻi has changed the way I notice the seasons.

We may not have four dramatic seasons, but the islands are always changing—the light, the breeze, the ocean, the flowers and even the colors around us.

September still feels like summer, but I start noticing those little changes.

Maybe seasons don’t always need to be seen. Sometimes, they are something we feel.

ハワイに暮らしていると
季節の感じ方が少し変わる

はっきりとした四季ではなく
光や風、海の色、花、雨など
自然の小さな変化から季節を感じます

9月はまだまだ夏のよう
それでも少しずつ変わっていくハワイ

季節は「見る」だけでなく
「感じる」ものなのかもしれません

I had the opportunity to meet Wendy F. Hensel, President of the University of Hawaiʻi. As the first woman to permanently lead the UH System, her leadership made me reflect on my own role as a woman and business owner.

Success is not only about what we achieve, but how we use it to contribute to our community.
