One of my favorite traditions from Grimpday isn’t a scenario, a score, or even a piece of rescue equipment.

It’s the trading.

Over the course of the week, I collected patches, stickers, challenge coins, shirts, and banners from rescue teams representing countries and organizations from around the world. Looking at this collection now, I don’t just see logos and memorabilia, I see conversations, handshakes, friendships, and shared experiences.

Each patch and coin tells a story or represents a team. Each sticker and shirt is a reminder of the people who traveled thousands of miles to come together in Namur with a common purpose: to learn, compete, and improve the craft of rescue.

What makes GRIMPDAY so special isn’t just the scenarios. It’s the community. For a few days each year, rescuers from different countries, languages, and backgrounds come together and quickly discover that they have far more in common than they have differences.

I’m grateful for every team that traded, shared their story, and helped make the 20th anniversary of GRIMPDAY such a memorable experience.

These items will find a place on the wall, but the memories and friendships will stay with me much longer.
