Please join us for this unique trunk show! I’ll be showing and discussing 6 gowns. My show will include restorations of vintage wedding gowns and custom historically inspired wedding gowns.
Lacis is located in Berkeley across from the Ashby BART station.

I am not the coordinator for this event. I’m just posting it for Lacis. I am only a part of a collection of vendors. It will have many services for brides and weddings.

One of the most extensive projects I did in 2025 was a custom wedding gown for a bride from LA.
She was inspired by Kate Middletons wedding gown wanting this beautiful neckline and bodice shape.

She was having 2 weddings, one in the Buchanan castle in Scotland and another in LA. a few weeks later. I was attending Costume College in LA the weekend of her ceremony or I would have attended. This was a good coincidence that I’ll explain in the photo comments.

The first steps were to find our materials. The skirt fabric was easy to find but I ended up making it twice out of 2 different fabrics. I ended up using the first silk as a lining for the second so it wasn’t wasted. Each time required 12yards.

The lace was much more difficult to source. I was planning to use it in different places and in different ways and I wanted it to match so finding the right configurations in one lace wasn’t easy. After looking in LA, New York and San Francisco I ended up finding the perfect lace … a French Alencon/Chantilly lace in Denver, CO in a wonderful store called Allyn’s. A big shout out to Sandy who sent many pictures that met my criteria.

Sheila was very trusting and bought it after only seeing pictures. She just loved it.

I’ll make more comments in the photo captions.

1990s fashion… what can I say?
This is a good example of a redesign that became something lovely.
Maddy wanted to wear her mother’s wedding gown but it needed rethinking.

I worked on seveal mother of the bride or groom gowns this year. This lovely little 20s dress has been worn several years by Renaissance violinist and professor at Vassar, Linda Quan. I meet the most interesting people!

Like many gowns I work on I needed to clean, enlarge and repair some damaged areas. I also made a new slip from a vintage silk slip to wear under.

I’ve added details in the photo captions.

Battenberg is a unique lace made with cotton tapes held together with complicated bridges. The thread bridges are twisted and joined by a circular swirl. Typically the gown is made to size and has no seams. I’ve worked on a few of these over the years. I recently worked on this gown for someone in Grass Valley.

This particular gown has not been cleaned because the client likes the dark ivory color. There are many other areas that needed to be repair but she gave me a budget that I needed to adhere to.

Greetings all!
It’s been a while since I’ve posted so I’m going to try to catch up a bit. This last year was full of custom work and restorations.

I started the year with this lovely 1950s gown for a customer from Nevada. She was the 4th bride in her family to wear it.

I’ve added more details in the captions.

I had many dance friends who traveled on the Queen Mary II in May. It was a special trip from London to New York. It was a celebration of the 1920s. The Fabulous Joan Walton was hired to teach dance classes of the era and everyone dressed in clothes of 1920s.

One of my clients went on the trip and wore 3 gowns that I did some restoration on.
Here is Michelle looking great!

It’s been a busy time at Studio Trousseau! I’m not one for repetition so it’s wonderful to have projects that provide a variety of unique challenges.

I just finished restoring this christening gown from the 1880s. It was mostly lace repair and of course cleaning. It had a slip and a bonnet that went with it.

Up next is a beautifully embroidered bed spread that needs a new backing. It was found in the house of the clients grandmother along with this little 30s lace gown. We are in the process of deciding if it will be restored or replicated. The lace is extremely fragile.
