FOUNDER’S CORNER: One of our strategic goals is to continuously and intentionally engage board members in recruitment and ongoing training.

Earlier this year, our Board Chair, Galen, Vice Chair, Emily, and I undertook a focused recruitment initiative that successfully brought three passionate individuals onto our board. We are absolutely thrilled they have joined our volunteer board team!

Our new members include:

Myles, an expert in college and career access who is dedicated to guiding youth through their educational journeys

Samantha, a seasoned operations specialist and entrepreneur committed to enhancing processes and supporting fellow business owners.

Kyla, a skilled grant writer with a heartfelt dedication to sharing the stories of people and organizations making a positive difference in our world.

Looking ahead, our next recruitment phase will focus on professionals in the fashion, beauty, construction, interior decorating, and mural painting sectors. This gorgeous duo hired me to create their couture garments for their bridal shower last summer.

Her dress features carefully placed appliqués, kente fabric detailing, and structural pieces (not seen) at the arm.

His outfit has lente fagruc detailing, and apliques at the shoulder.

As always, all garments are completely crafted by me from sketch, to pattern making, to final piece.

My newest collection and newest addition to my Africa series is entitled Lesotho. When researching the country and gathering information to curate my pieces I came across the Basotho blankets worn by the people of Lesotho(Basotho people). Lesotho is a country in Africa that gained its full independence in 1966. They are within the country of South Africa, and because of it they rely on them for its resources, but one thing that is uniquely theirs is the Basotho blanket. The history of the blanket goes back 100+ years, and was first gifted to king Moshoeshoe I in 1860. Soon after, the basotho soon adopted it into their lives as a means to stay warm in the cold climate of Lesotho, and as a use for important life events such as marriage and childbirth. Each blanket features intricate designs that have various meanings, and feature bold lines opposite of the colors on the blankets. Traditionally, they’re made of a mixture of wool and cotton. These blankets are one thing that Africa has been able to hold on to dearly, and when creating my brand I didn’t want to disrespect the blanket by finding a dupe. I instead went with colors and shapes that resonated with me through the images of the blankets, and included the bold line feature into my designs.

I got to feature my newest collection at Shred the runway a fashion fundraising event for the . The room was full of positivity and love, and so many of you guys showed up and showed out for the kids. It was a beautiful thing to witness 🩵.

Congratulations to my friend, repeat client, and gorgeous bride !! Thank you so much for trusting me for such a special day ❤️❤️ wishing you loads of love and happiness in your marriage.

This bride requested a detachable train, so the train snaps off easily with heavy duty snaps. Each appliqué was hand placed, and corset underneath is fully b***d and lined.

I had the honor of creating this beautiful dress for my client who was a bridesmaid for an African wedding. I’m completely obsessed with the fit of the dress!!

It has been a while since my last post, but my silence means I’ve been BUSY. Between planning my wedding, making my wedding dress, teaching classes, being a co-manager at a retail store, and so much more I’m exhausted but I wouldn’t have it any other way. 💞
