I would like to take a moment and share with everyone a road trip that I took today. This is the Ralston Oklahoma Opera House and Antique Shop. I’ve stopped in a few times in the past few years but this is my first time to see the restored Opera House upstairs! It’s not open very much so you definitely need to call ahead and see if they are open. Ralston is about a 45 minute trip southeast of Ponca City. This building was built in 1902 during the early territorial days in Pawnee County. The Opera House was located on the second floor but closed in 1927. Famous performers included Roy Rogers, Houdini, Charlie Chaplin, and more. This is Oklahoma’s oldest surviving Opera House. Sales from the Antique Shop on the first floor have helped in restoration of the Opera House. Take a look at the items in the Antique Shop, especially the Pyrex! The shop is almost like a museum in itself! It was hot and dusty in the shop, but I had a great time shopping and absorbing all the history. I have also heard it’s haunted, and that several paranormal groups have visited in the past. What an incredible piece of history in this tiny community nestled next to the mighty Arkansas River. If you get a chance to be in the area, and if they are open, stop in and check it out! By the way, while I was on my road trip, I heard our Mall had yet another outstanding day!
