2024 DC Pen Show is a wrap! Thank you to everyone who made this event a success. I was thrilled to see so many fountain pen enthusiasts smiling. It is wonderful to meet new people as well as revisit familiar faces. (For those of you who patiently waited to say, “Hello!” in between clients, I am immensely grateful for your consideration as well as kindness! ☺️🧡)

A special thank you to Julian for his immense help this weekend. Truly my eyes and ears as I focused on nibwork and the “Nibs 101” workshop. I am incredibly fortunate to have friends like him in my life. Thank you for making my guests’ experiences better!

Montblanc Bohème is a fun little pen. This one has been corrected for baby’s bottom. Have you tried a Bohème or other safety pen before?

Waterman Sérénité (I’ve only ever heard this pen pronounced in English, so I always forget that this French brand spells it with 𝙩𝙝𝙧𝙚𝙚 accents! And I’ve used so many bottles of“Encre Bleu Sérénité“ over the years…😅)

I love the Sérénité, so this was a pleasure to work on. It had a Fine nib which the owner desired to be Extra Fine. One day, I should buy the cocobolo version or continue to just enjoy little moments with my clients pens?

I find tiny Kaweco BB nibs to be fun and practical platforms for customization and EDC options. This gentleman requested his to be shaped into a Gochu 고추 🌶️ grind which has an architect-like quality yet yields a variety of line widths depending on writing angle and provides wispy lines en pointe.

I love the design of Oldwin pens from . The bronze arco celluloid has always been a favorite material as well. For today, a client who owns many Oldwin noticed this pen did not flow well after writing a line or two, but this was an easy fix after inspection.

I discovered an issue that appears to be more common with some modern ebonite feeds. It’s not tied to a specific maker but does happen. The ni**le of the housing is longer than the tang of the feed, allowing an air pocket to trap and restricting ink-air exchange for proper operation. In this case, I was unable to unscrew the nib unit. Perhaps the beautiful arco celluloid material had contracted around it or maybe someone used an adhesive at some point? Wanting to be cautious, I resorted to using burrs to reduced the ni**le down to mate effectively with the feed. That was interesting!
