Get to know our Featured Artisan: Suzanne Breaux.

>>What do you make, and what drew you to this craft?
"It seems I have always been a crafter. I What drew me to weaving was inspiration from my mother. She was an Acadian historian and bought me a loom early in life. My ancestors were weavers and she wanted to continue the tradition. I love the simple flat weave. I weave mostly with a two harness set up. This is the tradition of the Acadiana weave and it just comes so naturally to me. "

>>What are your favorite materials to use?
"I use cotton. Acadian brown cotton, natural and botanical dyed cottons. "

What part of the process do you enjoy the most right now?
>>"The process I enjoy the most right now is just weaving and seeing the weave turn into fabric, it is giving life to yarn!!!"

What does being part of Acadiana Fibershed mean to you?
>>"Being part of Acadiana Fibershed spotlights my ability to create something uniquely Acadian. I am a fifth generation Acadian and I feel it is so important to keep this tradition alive. Sure I could still weave and enjoy my creations but Fibershed puts our cotton on a worldwide stage."

What’s something you wish more people understood about handmade textiles?
>>"Well I feel once people understand the work that goes into growing, preparing, spinning, and warping a loom to create fabric it must be eye opening to say the least! "
