Good morning! I have a big business/personal update to share with y’all. My husband and I have decided to move back to Central New York. After 9 amazing years in NC. First in Raleigh, then Asheboro we felt it would be best for our baby to grow up around family.

I want to thank the community here for being so supportive. And those who recommended Taft Street Crossing for an office space. Kimberly from Sincerely Candle Co. has been amazing to work with. If your looking for a space this location has it all. Feel free to reach out if you would like more details.

Patches were in abundance this week. Sometimes a challenge because of the material or the placement, but always fun to see the end result.

Let's talk about bustles. Some dresses have long, full trains with yards and yards of fabric. During alterations it is an option to pull that fabric up to make the dress more mobile. Meaning walking and dancing is a lot easier.

Throughout history a few different bustles have become popular. Those being the American or over bustle, the French or under bustle, the royal bustle, the ballroom bustle and the bow bustle. There are some others, but these are the most common ones. Picking which one is right for you and your dress all depends on your style and the silhouette of the look.

Another advantage of the bustle is that it picks the fabric up off the ground and saves it from all the dirt and dust.

Wedding season is in fully swing. October is a beautiful time of year to celebrate. My husband and I just celebrated 3 years on the 2nd. 🥰🎉❤️

Here’s some info on wedding dress alterations that some people may be wondering about.

The number of fittings depends on the type of alterations needed and if any changes to your body happen during this time. Often times it takes two, maybe 3 fittings.

The final fitting should take place 1-2 weeks before the wedding day.

A bridal fitting will usually last about an hour.

Schedule your first fitting 8-12 weeks before the wedding day.

I do not charge a flat fee for alterations. The cost depends on the alteration needed and the dress.

Patches can be fun. Seeing all the different activities that people do and talking to them about them is interesting. Patches can also be tricky to sew on because of the thickness or location.

Sharing a working space with a candle maker has its perks for sure. Sincerely Candle Co. has some beautiful fall scents. I’m excited for this one called Apple Jack. It reminds me of where I grew up in NY; There are many u-pick Apple orchards. Rethreading the serger is something that takes a lot of practice and patience. But it’s worth it to have a beautiful finished seam.

There are 4 needles on this machine that work together and a blade that cuts the fabric edge as you sew. It can be intimidating for beginner sewers to use however it’s really very easy and will make your work look nice and professional. 🪡🧵

Many people have asked how I got into this. It started young. My mom sews and taught me. We made all the dresses I wore to dances in high school. I’m very lucky to have parents that supported my interests. Then I decided to go to college for fashion design.

In the small town of Cazenovia, NY was a college that had a program. I loved the time spent there. Learning and growing as a person and a designer.

For the first time in 200 years Cazenovia College will not open its doors to students. It has recently shut down due to financial reasons. It’s sad to see it go and know that this fall kids won’t be moving in and making those memories. I hope the facilities can be put to good use in some way. It holds a very special place in so many hearts. ❤️🧵🪡

A hem, tack at center front and adjustment of the two skirt slits for this one. I love the sleeves on this dress as well as the sheer back and skirt. The color is a rich emerald green which is very popular this season, but I find it to be a timeless color.

It’s been 14 years since high school and these halls brought back some memories. I didn’t go to Asheboro High, but I feel like all schools have that same smell. The choir class needed some help getting measurements for their dresses and suits and I was so happy to help out.

A tailor will offer this service if you ever need the info for a suit or bridesmaids dress. It’s very quick to do. And helpful when ordering online. A tip is to buy based off the largest measurement because it’s easier to take in than it is to let out.
