Celebration!! I completed Improv 401 last night?! Last night was our showcase!! 🎉
About eight months ago I started my improv journey with Alchemy Comedy Theater and it’s been such an incredible journey. I’m so proud of all my classmates and how far we’ve come since day one.
I remember the first day of class — my heart was racing and I felt nervous to even say my name and introduce myself. Fast forward to last night and I’m playing a grandma with an ancestral curse of eyes growing on the back of my neck 😂🤡
A highlight for me: during the first few minutes my adrenaline was rushing — excitement and nerves on full blast… but then the moment I got into my first scene and my scene partner gifted me the role of mother, my nerves completely stabilized. I suddenly felt so grounded and rooted in myself. From that point on I was having so much fun and felt so comfortable on stage.
Instead of rushing through moments because of nerves, I found myself taking my time and letting moments breathe. Through improv and stand-up I’ve been learning the power of pausing and silence. It’s taken time and courage and trust to let quiet moments exist while performing… and now that I’m experimenting with that more, I’m discovering how powerful and hilarious silence can be. ✨
Now that I’ve completed the fourth level, I’ll officially be joining a team with Alchemy!! I can hardly believe it. Soon I’ll be performing monthly. So grateful for this journey, this community, and this opportunity to grow, play, and laugh. 💛
Genuinely… this has been such a transformative year for me. Improv is not just improv. It seeps into all aspects of your life. I feel more connected and enriched by the joys of every moment. Less afraid, more curious. Less nervous, more playful. 💗
