The thought of boarding a plane in today’s time is fearful and full of anxiety. Those feelings are dreadful because the world is truly a beautiful place.
The Admin team at Wings Over Camarillo has made known some of the strategies you can do to help overcome your fears and reclaim your confidence, and we’re going to share 5 of them:
1. Reflect on your own personal triggers (heights, turbulence, lack of control)
2. Understand turbulence - it’s normal to feel the bumps of irregular air movements. Planes are designed to withstand the most severe turbulence.
3. Imagine your trip - visualize the airport checkpoints to overcome your flight anxiety - arriving at the airport, calmly checking in, boarding the gate, smooth take-off, etc.
4. Find a distraction - the key is one that shifts your attention away from the flight, such as watching a movie, listening to music/audiobooks, adult coloring book, etc
5. Breathing techniques - deep, controlled breathing can slow your heart rate and promote relaxation. I like to personally say “smell the roses, and blow out the candles.”
