We had such a nice time. It was so chill. The kids learned more about Maya-her history and her legacy. Even my very active eight-year-old son stayed engaged . My house was calm and relatively quiet for about two hours so I’m completely satisfied. Share with your family! Free Maya Angelou download in my linktree.

Sometimes I slow down and realize how lucky I am to be the first human to meet my daughter. How amazing and heavy a responsibility to get to raise and shape this fantastic human. But it’s only heavy because she’s so important. Every day of her life she’s made me smile. A beacon of Joy.

I’ve had to strip away old selves and unproductive perspectives to mother her. I used to find myself in an impossible race against time to better myself before she was old enough to notice how messed up I really am. I lost that fight. I am flawed and very human and this clever girl sees it all. But lucky me, she’s full of compassion and understanding and she loves me through it all.

Our home is a safe place to make mistakes because you’ll always be forgiven, loved and empowered to do better. I’m working hard to create that environment for the kids, and I’ve been blessed that they extend it to me. I realize my next task is to reach higher and jump further and demonstrate how to gracefully win or take the lesson - cause we never lose. We win or we learn.

Maybe the problem is we keep teaching Black history in sports as a series of “firsts.”

Because “first” sounds celebratory.
But it also quietly reminds us the door was locked in the first place.

These athletes weren’t important just because they entered spaces.
They mattered because many of them exposed the rules of those spaces completely.

Some used excellence.
Some used silence.
Some used refusal.
Some used visibility.
Some sacrificed careers entirely.

But they all understood something powerful:

The game was never separate from society.

And once you realize that…
you start seeing these athletes less as entertainers —
and more as people negotiating freedom in public.

That changes the way you look at sports entirely.

How many of these people can you guess. Here's a little hint....

W.R.

Octavia Butler has a way of writing that feels like remembering something ancient.

This book gives hear philosophies through Lauren Olamina and it all centers around the concept that “God is Change.”

that’s a Zen’d out concept you can meditate on for a lifetime for real. She literally creates a whole religion in this book while world building something beautiful and terrifying.

And throughout it all you have pagans like this that feel like ancient poetry.

So take a breath. Enjoy some beautiful writing today. 🤎

It was Mother’s Day weekend and I wanted to prototype a new bag idea. But moms know… you can’t pull out the sewing machine without little hands wanting to help.

I could’ve gotten annoyed. I could’ve waited until everybody went to sleep so I could do it “right.” But how often do your kids genuinely want to be part of what you’re doing? How often do they just want to sit beside you and create with you?

So the bag came out a little wonky. The stitching isn’t perfect. It took twice as long.

But one day they won’t ask to help anymore. And I have a feeling I won’t care about the crooked seams nearly as much as I’ll care about this memory.
