Leadership rarely begins with our generation.

Rev. Jesse Jackson spent decades building coalitions across faith, civil rights, and global Black leadership — treating the connections between the United States and Africa not as symbolic, but as real relationships to be sustained.

Long before “diaspora engagement” became a formal idea, he was already doing the work - through clergy networks, civic organisations, and international advocacy that linked communities across continents.

Having grown up around many of those same circles of service and public leadership, moments like this feel less like coincidence, and more like continuity.

The question for our generation is simple:
What bridges are we building today that will still matter in 30 years?
