I’ve never done this before, but seeing that I now offer way more physical items in the shop than I do digital, I thought I’d share!

The last day to order items from the shop to guarantee they will make it in time for the holidays will be as follows:

* (USA) Priority Mail, First Class Mail, USPS Ground Advantage: December 16th
* (USA) Media Mail, UPS Ground Service, FedEx Ground Service: December 9th
* (International) First Class Package, Priority Mail: November 30th

Also, there is a special Small Business Saturday discount available only to newsletter subscribers 🎁 I’ll be sending it in tomorrow’s essay, so there is still time to get on the list if that’s your thing ✨ link in bio ✨

If you enjoyed Big Magic, then I’ve gathered a few other reads you may like! These are all creative books that I’ve found especially helpful, both in my writing and motivating myself as an artist.

Have you read any of these? Or what books have you found motivating that I should add to my list?

Are you team rotary cutter or team scissors?

For me, it really depends on the project. For anything requiring super precise lines, or for fabrics that tend to shift, I will reach for my rotary cutter in a heart beat. I especially love the sound it makes as it glide across slippery silk and rayon fibers.

For everything else, scissors are my go-to. I tend to keep a pair in every workspace I occupy as they always come in handy for something!.

*This rotary cutter was gifted to me as I am a brand ambassador for . I was not asked to create this post.

What are you working on in this second week of the new year?

Currently, I am trying to find the motivation to finish these tartan wool shorts before the end of the weekend. I started these last year and have since abandoned them in my “to be finished” pile. Is it just me or are there other chronic multiple-unfinished-project sewists out there with a pile of half completed work? I can’t be the only one, right?

What’s one item in your current wardrobe you didn’t realize you were missing until you got it?

For me, that item was the humble blazer. Sure, I have had blazers in the past, I’ve even sewn a few of them for myself. But it wasn’t until gifted me this stunning red number that I realized just how much I had been missing out on having a perfectly fitting blazer in my wardrobe. Seriously. Anytime I am feeling a bit “meh” and am needing a lift, I reach for this blazer. In an instant, I feel as if I can tackle anything the day might throw at me!

To me, this blazer feels powerful and sexy and chic and intelligent, all while being super comfortable.

number two is officially complete! If you remember, a few weeks back I shared my first foray into knitting berets and mentioned that I had sized up in my needles which resulted in a beret that flies off my head anytime a gentle breeze rolls through. So for this beret, I went back down a size in my needles, however, I was so nervous that the beret opening would be too small for me that I wound up making a size M/L (instead of the original S/M).

The resulting beret DOES fit me better than the first. But it is still too large 😂 I blame my nervousness in knitting a hat that is too small on the fact that I did just that two years ago with a pattern I absolutely adored in yarn that I had hand dyed with plant material I had grown from scratch. Needless to say, I was quite sad when the resulting beanie did not fit on my scalp and have been scarred ever since.

Here’s hoping that beret number three is my magic Goldilocks!

Do you have any big sewing plans this year? I know I do, but they are quite spaced out with a focus on creating fewer pieces more slowly. I’ve found that spending a lot of time with my wardrobe contemplating the pieces I gravitate towards as well as those I rarely ever reach for has helped me to hone in on what key items I might be missing. This quiet reflection has also allowed me to discover what items no longer serve me or my fluctuating body, instead offering me a host of solutions I might wish to employ going forward such as more elasticated backs, additional ease, and new silhouettes.

It’s something I’ve been thinking on for a long while and am excited to finally begin diving in to.

She had curly brown hair and is wearing a red, raglan sleeve turtleneck sweater, black circle skirt with lace trim, thigh high sock tights, holiday socks, and thrifted leather boots. She has one hand on her hip and the other on her thigh as she casts her gaze down towards her plants.}
