I built a fashion school, SELF Academy ® Academy, that’s backed by Georgia State University and Georgia Tech. SELF Academy ® Academy has maintained a 100% Student Placement Rate since 2023. This morning, my parents told me that they are proud of me, for the first time ever. They’ve no idea how much I yearned for this moment.

If you are a parent, never stop encouraging your child(ren). It means more than you’ll ever know.

March was….a lot. 😪🫠 But if there’s one thing I’m grateful I learned early in business, it’s this: don’t major in the minor. Challenges are inevitable. People will disappoint you deeply. You will have to pivot often and make it look seamless. But in the midst of it all, you can’t allow those moments to consume you. Don’t major in the minor.

I know, I know…it’s easier said than done, but when you begin to practice it (starting with the smallest things), you build the discipline to not be shaken by what doesn’t deserve your energy.

March brought me back-to-back pressure. Pressure I’d read about but never experienced. But instead of letting it overwhelm me, I chose to lift it to the Lord. Because at the end of the day, Academy is His vision. I’ve been entrusted to steward it. And honestly…there’s real peace in knowing that He is sovereign. 🥹💕

By far, the busiest quarter in Academy. New Agency opportunities are opening for our fashion students and I could not be more excited for them. We’re approaching Placement season and I’m eager to disclose the amazing placements we’ve secured for them. God is so faithful. What better way to close the quarter than with celebratory donuts? 😋

Just a year ago, we were doing everything we could to accommodate 7 students in our shared classroom at Georgia State University. Today, Academy is celebrating 7 months at our new Midtown Atlanta fashion design campus — and accommodating hundreds of emerging designers. The first of many campuses. This fashion design campus has become a reliable place where designers train, launch global brands, collaborate, and develop their collections.

Every time I walk in our studio and see our students designing and building community with one another, while our faculty genuinely enjoy pouring into them, it truly makes my heart smile. As Academy Director, moments like these are what keep me going. 💕

I truly could not have prayed for a better Faculty to lead Academy (not all pictured). Three years ago, I was managing Academy by myself. Teaching classes, securing placements for each student — managing every single detail of Academy and our student placement agency, Agency. Today, we have a powerhouse of Master Tailors and industry professionals shaping the next generation of designers at Academy. And it feels so, so good.

Sometimes I pause and think… wow. I’m so grateful. 🥹
