For whom the bell tolls?! “I LIVE IN YOUR P**S” greets you at the entrance to choreographer and performance artist Florentina Holzinger’s multidisciplinary group performance and immersive installation entitled SEAWORLD VENICE - transforming the into a flooded, dystopian landscape exploring women’s labor, climate change, rising sea levels, tourism, technology and the limits of the human body.
The exhibit is described as “part temple, part gallery, part theme park, part sewage processing plant”. It operates as a permanent live installation featuring continuous performances with shocking and highly immersive elements. You can’t see from THE videos but the jet ski segment ends like a mournful farewell to water as we know it. It’s really sad and I wept a few times. I was also completely drenched head to toe by a wave, which essentially contained my filtered p**s as I contributed as requested
* The Bell: A n**e performer swings and slams her body inside a giant, monumental bronze church bell to serve as a physical warning regarding the climate crisis. Got to see this 5 times over the course of 4 hours !
* The Jet Ski: A n**e woman rides a jet ski in an enclosed pool of water within the flooded pavilion, acting as a symbol of “turbo-tourism” and environmental destruction.
* Closed-Loop Water System: The installation features an unconventional water filtration system—partially sustained by symbolic contributions of bodily fluids—to highlight the concepts of pollution and the recycling of resources.
* The Weather Vane: two climbers in harnesses scale a twirling weather vane of bronze women, re enacting their poses and hanging solemnly in feet’s of contortion that feel like the slow and inexorable end of things
