Did you know Serpent Mound, located in Adams County, Ohio, (roughly 73 miles east of Cincinnati) is the world’s largest surviving effigy mound, a mound in the shape of an animal, from the prehistoric era. The 1348 foot long Native American structure has been excavated a few times since the late 1800s, but the origins of Serpent Mound are still a mystery.

Flight of the Eagle πŸ¦…

A Bald Eagle flies directly towards my camera at the Bird Walk in Myakka River State Park during sunset in Sarasota, FL on 1.21.2024

A Bald Eagle's wingspan ranges between 5.11” feet and 7.7” feet!

I have never got this type of photo before with an eagle coming straight at me. Amazing! Totally worth it for going out today.

On this we’re taking you back when Alligator Alley was under construction in 1964. The highway previously existed as a two-lane tollway connecting the two coasts of Florida. Initially known as the Everglades Parkway (SR 84), it opened for traffic on February 11, 1968, after four years of construction. Starting in 1986, the two lanes of the old Alley were made eastbound and two lanes were built to the north, with a grassy median between.

It cost $1.50 each way in 1969; it's now about $3.

As you drive down the road you can see Big Cypress National Preserve on either side, where you can spot beautiful White Egrets and shimmering Blue Heron standing statuesque on the banks of the Everglades, and of course alligators sunning on the rocks.

The Canopy Trail in Myakka leads to the wonderful experience of walking through the treetops. The park, through the financial support of the community and the help of Meg Lowman, built a suspension bridge through the tops of the trees, so that we can experience the environment of treetops. Wonderful!

On the day I took this picture, the trail was flooded. It looked like a water wonderland, and remarkably different from the other times I had walked the trail.
