‘Survey: most Americans unaware that truckers face shortage of parking spaces’ (dcvelocity.com)

In a survey recently administered through a new company offering business management software solutions to owner-operaters and small trucking companies, CloudTruck, reports that many Americans are unaware of the parking difficulties our truck drivers and freight industry workers face.

These shortages contribute to the increased frequency of exhausted drivers, near their maximum driving service limit, experiencing difficulties in finding safe parking solutions, and often times forcing them to park along the roadside near exit ramps and rest stops, typically containing inadequately managed facilities, while drivers wait for the opportunity to reset their hours of service clock.

Other interesting finds, involving the 1,000 Americans that participated in the survey, involved response indicating support and appreciation toward our nation’s truckers and industry workers. The analyzed results also indicated that many participants felt that truck drivers were overworked, underpaid, and are often safer drivers than those members of the general public.

What are some of the proposed solutions for resolving this nationwide commercial vehicle parking dilemma? Some ideas mentioned included: increased funding by the government for new parking infrastructure, relaxed zoning and land use regulations, and increased tax incentives for travel centers, truck stops, and local/private chains, encouraging efforts for aid in the expansion of parking solutions for these hard-working, frequent over-the-road travelers.

Truckloco’s mission has been to bring awareness to America's truck drivers and freight industry workers, who we refer to as ‘America's unsung heroes.’ We hope, through our awareness efforts and our support of industry improvement-focused charitable organizations, that we might be able to support an increase in the quality of life of our American drivers.

Here at Truckloco, we couldn’t agree more with the final statement made, by CloudTruck’s co-founder and CEO, that “We can all play a part in ensuring that the resources provided to truck drivers are proportional to how much we value their service in our economy.”

"Utilizing Truckloco to celebrate and drive awareness of our nation's unsung heroes is my biggest motivation."

Founder & CEO Liz Murray shares the passion behind launching Truckloco, and her hopes for the future.

"I've been in the freight industry for over a decade and have gotten to see their world through the eyes of almost every role - from booking trucks, to back office support, to leading hiring and Human Resources initiatives.

After so many conversations over those years with freight industry workers, I felt compelled to do something to bring joy and appreciation to the behind-the-scenes, unsung heroes who work so diligently day-in and day-out. They help us all get what we need in our day to day lives with very little disruption, but the efforts of these workers so often goes unnoticed.

Not just that, they encounter many struggles - consistently low access to clean facilities, warm healthy meals and dental or medical care, long periods of time spent away from their families, and loneliness from long days on the road - just to name a few.

At Truckloco, our mission is to bring fashion and fun to a not-so-glamorous industry, and celebrate the people and traditions that are a part of it.

As we grow, our goal is to contribute a portion of our sales to charitable organizations, specifically The National Road Project, that focus on supporting, appreciating and helping our freight industry workers meet basic living requirements and increase their quality of life.

I look passionately into the future and hope that through our work we will build a community of people who want to support and thank America's freight industry workers, all while sporting our hats and designs!"

CNN Business reporter, Peter Valdes-Dapena, reports that a new proposed rule would allow 18-year olds to drive semi-trucks across state lines. What effect does this have on the industry?
Having more CDL qualified drivers on the road is always nice, especially when the country is struggling to keep drivers of small to medium businesses operating and on the road.
Currently, this popular demographic of potential drivers face additional CDL driving restrictions. These restrictions separate them from and potentially gives advantage to more experienced, veteran drivers. (And rightfully so, they've earned it, just by the miles they have driven alone). Regulations pertaining to this subject are a “hot topic" and are receiving national attention.
Current legislation reflects that young drivers in certain states, either can’t legally qualify for their CDL or face travel restrictions involving interstate commerce. Restrictions such as these, impact and result in the hindering of young drivers’ abilities to take advantage of long road journeys that could potentially open doors for new and future business opportunities, and may very well deter them from joining the force as a road warrior altogether.
This is unfortunate especially due to that these restrictions, intended to keep the roadways safe and free of “potential recklessness” that young drivers operating commercial vehicles might bring, may be in fact be the most influential contributor in the lull the industry observes, involving candidates in the this demographic, and their decision on whether or not to enter the profession. Young adults, teetering on time, during the crucial period between high school and college, when kids are young, healthy, motivated, eager to learn, and want to bring in an annual income, are trying to make a decision on what they want to do for a living. By choosing inaction, by not paving a way for our youth to taking advantage of this opportunity, and for them to realize the role and the positive impact they might play in ensuring that our country thrives, evolves, and continues to support a capitalistic economy that facilitates healthy competition amongst the most qualified candidates.

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY
Let’s Celebrate the Women of Trucking

Yesterday was International Women’s Day! These days, there are so many holidays on our calendar that it's often times hard to keep up. International Women’s Day is special because of its uniqueness, a day to recognize and celebrate the “tenacity, determination, and leadership” of women and girls around the world, their contributions and accomplishments.

I want to start off by saying, “God bless the women of trucking.” In an industry dominated predominantly by males, and no mistaking, I love men, it’s refreshing to see so many women stepping up to the plate and joining the logistical industry’s workforce.

Woman are amazing creatures, mysteriously observing, learning, and perfecting. Then, when the time is right, and confidence is high, they take the giant leap.

According to Podcaster, Chris Smith, and his recently published article, on March 8, 2023, he claims that women only make up six percent of the trucking industry’s workforce. Although that number is not extremely high, the good news is that that number is growing!

Statistically, he claims that having women on the road makes the road a safer place. Due to that, they are less likely to be involved in an accident. They are also known for their attention to detail and commitment to following safety protocols.

It’s been exciting to hear about this increase in the number of women entering the logistical workforce and how this movement is helping to pave the way and promote a welcoming, supportive environment for everyone who is passionate about taking to the road!
