You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.
So do the hard thing ✨
During our NYC trip in October, I visited Kinokuniya New York to pitch myself and Spark Collection books. As we stepped inside the large two-story store with our kids and walked around the large displays and shelves of Miffy, Pusheen and Studio Ghibli, I began to feel imposter syndrome. My stomach started sinking. Maybe we should just enjoy ourselves, we have to leave in 20 minutes anyway, I thought.
I walked around admiring and waiting for the right moment to approach Kinokuniya staff. As you know in life, there’s rarely a right moment. You have to create the moment for yourself. So, I did it. I introduced myself, made a pitch, left some samples, then walked swiftly out to catch our scheduled car ride out of New York.
I didn’t think they would follow up with me, especially because the buyer wasn’t in. A few days after my trip, I found an email in my inbox from the buyer. I couldn’t believe it.
It would’ve been so easy to walk out without doing the hard thing. But, I’m so glad I did. The worst they can say is no, and you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.
