I’m often asked what my favorite fabric weight for draperies is. It all depends on the look you’re trying to achieve, whether it’s slouchy and informal or more structured and formal, Washed and soft, or unwashed and firm.

I love our 12 oz 100% linen fabric for a more formal look. It has a nice, sturdy weight and looks lovely with either a blackout or cotton lining.

Sourcing fabric online isn’t easy. It can be difficult to tell the hand, weight, weave, and colors from online photos. We’re always happy to put together a Custom Swatch Set for our customers to help them see the various colors and weights in person before making a decision on what fabric to select. A Custom Swatch Set in swatches includes a variety of swatches that fit your criteria. Yesterday, I made a big announcement. Mary Claret Studio is moving! This is the last week in our Austin studio.

After many years in Austin, I'm moving to Nashville, Tennessee, to take on a new professional opportunity as an Assistant Professor of Fashion at .

Because of the move, I will have limited products on maryclaret.com starting on August 1st. I work with several textile production partners that ship fabrics for me, so many of your favorite fabrics will still be available.

I know many of you personally, and I’m so thankful for the support you’ve given my business over the years. Providing my customers with quality textiles and apparel brings me joy. Life takes us into different seasons, and a new season for me is coming!

I wanted to let you know that I’ve accepted a faculty position in the O’More College of Architecture and Design at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee as an Assistant Professor of Fashion. I taught for several years at Baylor University and have missed my relationship with students and the stimulating university setting. I’m excited to embark on a new chapter, a new opportunity, and continued professional growth.

That being said, Mary Claret Studio is not going anywhere! Well, it’s moving to Nashville…but I still plan to source, sell, and make high-quality fabrics and apparel. One of the most important parts of selecting the correct fabric for your project is getting great swatches. Phone screens and monitors all represent color, texture, and depth differently. We offer swatches of all of our fabrics with information on the back of each swatch that gives you essential information like country of origin, weight, use, and rub count.
