Ruffles aren’t harder to shade than anything else, they just look intimidating.

Once you learn how to read the fabric:
where it rises,
where it dips,
where it compresses
— ruffles follow the same shading logic as a voluminous skirt.

📺 Comment “RUFFLE” if you want the full shading breakdown for this ruffled dress and I’ll send you my FREE tutorial link.

If you’re a complete beginner in fashion illustration, this is for you.

A lot of beginners do the same thing I did:
buy a few fashion drawing books,
watch tons of YouTube tutorials,
practice here and there… and still feel like nothing is improving.

Your sketches stay flat, your lines feel messy, and the dress in your head never matches what ends up on the page.

It’s such a weird feeling when you’re putting in effort, but it’s not showing in the results.

And honestly, that can make you want to quit.

But here’s the thing: the problem usually isn’t you.
It’s the LACK OF A CLEAR ROADMAP.

That’s why I wrote “From Ugly Drawings To Beautiful Dresses”: a beginner-friendly ebook built around a simple 8-step framework.

So you always know:
🎯 what to focus on first
🚫 what to ignore for now
➡️ what to practice next (so you stop bouncing between random tutorials)

You don’t have to feel “artistic” to start.
YOU JUST NEED A CLEAR PATH.

I’ll show you how I build my line drawings, and then how I shade in a way that’s simple and repeatable (so you’re not guessing every time).

Plus, if you’re using Procreate on iPad, you’ll see exactly how to do it step-by-step.

If you’re just starting your fashion illustration journey, or you’ve been trying for a while but feel stuck, this will give you the structure that makes practice finally “click.”

If you want to learn my 8-step framework, just comment “START” and I’ll send you the details.

🖍️ How to Draw Gold Metallic Texture in Procreate

Step 1: Start with the darkest shade (lowest value) and block it in over your line drawing first.

Step 2: Blend into a lighter tone, but keep the darkest shadow areas visible.

Step 3: Repeat this process, gradually increasing the values. Use 4–5 tones for more depth and a more “metallic” look.

Step 4: Finish with the brightest highlight (white). Apply it with firm pressure on the strongest shine areas (like the chest/upper curves), and normal pressure for softer highlights.

Step 5: Final touch-up: sharpen a few edges, boost contrast where needed, and clean up the transitions.

It might feel tricky at first, but you’ll get the hang of it with practice and patience.

Outfit Reference: Dolce & Gabbana

Textures get easier when you follow the right order.

If you’re stuck at beginner level and not improving, comment “8STEP” and I’ll send you my newly released ebook link: From Ugly Drawings To Beautiful Dresses (my 8-step framework to improve faster).
