My mama + me. ♥️
She loved this song and now that I’m a Mom, so do I. The lyrics are so beautiful.
Some holidays and anniversary’s hit harder than others. Today Im really missing my Mom. I miss her laugh and her voice the most. She had the best laugh.
Before my mom passed, she handed me a folder with some paperwork and things she wanted me to have. She was so organized making sure everything was in order. She never wanted to burden anyone.
Tucked In the folder with the paperwork was a poem. It had a sticky note on it and it simply said ‘I’ve always loved this’
I’ve shared this poem with so many friends over the years since she’s passed. And now that my babies are growing up (too fast) and time feels fleeting in many ways I hold onto this poem and the words and wanted to share it on Mothers Day. 🪁
Children Are Like Kites
You spend years trying to get them off the ground.
You run with them until you are both breathless. They crash ... they hit the roof ... you patch, comfort and assure them that someday they will fly.
Finally, they are airborne.
They need more string, and you keep letting it out.
They tug, and with each twist of the twine, there is sadness that goes with joy.
The kite becomes more distant, and you know it won’t be long before that beautiful creature will snap the lifeline that binds you together and will soar as meant to soar ... free and alone.
Only then do you know that you have done your job.
