Welcome to Mushrooms 101, the lesson nobody taught us in school and honestly the coolest thing on the planet.
Mushrooms are the fruit. Mycelium is the network: living threads that stretch for miles underground, connecting entire forests and feeding the soil.
Fungi have been taking apart tough stuff like wood for hundreds of millions of years. Their secret? Enzymes that unlock complex carbon structures one bond at a time.
Nature already wrote the playbook. At HIRO, we’ve spent 6 years learning to read it. Welcome to the HIRO’s Journey.
First, we studied 100+ strains to figure out which fungi actually produce the enzymes known to catalyze the breakdown of plastic. Then we learned how to immobilize them. Then we figured out how they could sleep inside a small pouch, the HIRO Myco-Pod, that you add at every diaper change. Baby’s p*e and p**p re-wet the fungi, they wake up, and they emerge from the pouch. Consistently.
Oh, and they had to be the cleanest fungi out there: beneficial to humans, food grade, zero mycotoxins.
Our latest breakthrough? In our lab, our fungi fully consumed the SAP, the super absorbent polymer at the core of the diaper. They already love our unbleached cotton, since it’s natural. The rest of the diaper is next.
Why diapers? They’re the #1 household plastic waste item. 167 billion land in landfills every year and can sit there for 500+ years.
As modern parents, we get it. Washing p**py cloth diapers after a long day of work is a lot. So we went the regenerative route. It’s okay to take, as long as you give back and replenish. Animals and insects extract, and they give back too. That’s symbiosis. It’s our turn to figure that out.
