So many photos and so much LOVE!!! Almost 7 months- from devastation to rebirth. It started with the hellish task of going through all of the wet, smoke damaged contents of a 16 year ‘home’ of my creative soul. I think I actually DID indeed cry a river! The loss just 4 months on the heels of losing my mother was crushing. Looking at new spaces that were lovely and full of potential but NQR was really hard, there was profound loneliness in starting over. Kim gently suggested the space across the hall from their great studio. It was so different and the historic floors were amazing but rustic(think white silk and factory floors) but that ceiling! That height, those trusses.. a new kind of cathedral! I fell in love with the possibility once again, back with dear friends who have snacks😂.Thursday as the last bits of trim were placed in the blue cabinets I made myself a dress to wear. That’s some epic self care for me! At 1 pm the flood gates of love opened.!! What a day of joy and gratitude, thank you to everyone that came to celebrate - so many faces from the beginning of the jag journey, new faces, young people and 8 week old baby Frankie! I’m having a hard time putting it all into words, I can’t thank my daughter Jewell for getting me over the finish line with her organization and clipboard!!! Roland was always there to haul stuff in and drag stuff out, never a grumble! And hostess extraordinaire thank you!!

The studio will open back up at 6pm for the party with lovely bites by and . Kombucha bar featuring our favs from and some gluten free treats by I’m so grateful to be surrounded by so much local love, so grateful to be able to celebrate with the community that got me through this seriously traumatic time! Thank you and I love you all!! 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹

Thinking about my uncle today, he was killed in Vietnam in march of 1967. I was born in July of 67, a year to the day that he was deployed. He was only 22 years old. His absence was such a presence in my life. The legacy of grief was a huge part of my childhood, I was the substitute. My grandparents never got over his death, my grandfather had electroshock therapy, my granny said his name over and over in her sleep. I always wonder who the girl was, I wish I could ask her about him. Thinking about those who gave their lives in service today. Thinking about the young man that never made it back home.

I’ve been making corsets since 1995. What year is it now?? Since they are EVERYWHERE right now I think it’s time we have a talk! lol! I might rant a little, but bear with me, as my friends know I can be triggered by certain things 😂😂😂 let’s start with pronunciation, It’s pronounced ‘corset’ like bullet. Not ‘corsette’ here’s a little summary from the interwebs why this happens:
Pseudo-French Sophistication (Hyperforeignism)
Because “corset” is originally a French word, English speakers often apply what they think are French pronunciation rules to make it sound more sophisticated. In actual French, the “t” is silent (cor-say). Instead of using the correct French or traditional English pronunciation, speakers split the difference: they stress the final syllable but keep the “t” sound, inventing the hybrid cor-SET.
Confusion with the “-ette” Suffix
In English, textile and fashion words ending in -ette (like silhouette, chemisette, or barrette) always place the emphasis on the final syllable. Because “corset” sounds identical to this suffix, our brains naturally bucket it into the same category. It was likely further blurred by the corselette, a lightweight girdle popular in the mid-20th century.
The “TikTok Effect” and Pop Culture
While this mispronunciation has existed for decades, it recently exploded due to period dramas like Bridgerton and the rise of historical fashion influencers on TikTok and YouTube. When creators say cor-SET in viral videos, millions of viewers mimic them. For a younger generation who didn’t grow up using the word in daily conversation, the internet version became their standard. corsets should be thin and strong- some were made out of ribbon for sleeping. It’s all about engineering and placement of the boning. If a corset is made well it’s not thick! It shouldn’t make your waist BIGGER! I keep seeing new gowns that have thick, fully lined, plastic b***d tops that add inches to the figure. These need to be closed with anything but a zipper- especially an INVISIBLE ZIPPER. the tension is crucial if you want a beautiful fit. Hook and eye.

Samantha made the most of beautiful choices for her wedding trusseau. All vintage, all exquisite in their own way. 1950’s/60’s gold cocktail gown for welcome party was delicately restored, paired with the perfect vintage Chanel slides with gold brocade camellias. Her gown was 1990s Vera wang. I tell you, they just don’t make gowns like this anymore! The construction of the bodice was so finely crafted that it took hours to take apart. The skirt was so simple yet so complicated with 2 deep vertical tucks. The bustle looked like sculpture, a true art form in my world! Her party dress was a fully beaded, square neck with a deep@swallow tail back that was perfect for dancing. Paired with lovely vintage ferragp pumps with a chunky heel. These thoughtful choices were so gorgeous, almost as lovely as Samantha’s herself!! This vintage gown was the one that I was willing to run into a burning building to save!! And a special thank you to (and Marc) for being in the doorway with open arms that whisked them away to safety!
