☀️ Your vitamin D level might be “normal”… but that doesn’t always mean it’s optimal.

Here in the Midwest, low vitamin D levels are incredibly common — especially after long winters and limited sun exposure.

And this is something we talk about with patients all the time:
👉 “Normal” on labs simply means you’re not severely deficient.
👉 But “optimal” is where your body tends to function its best.

Many vitamin D experts believe optimal levels are often closer to the 50–60 range for overall wellness — not just barely above the minimum cutoff.

Vitamin D plays a role in:
✔️ Immune health
✔️ Mood & energy
✔️ Bone health
✔️ Muscle function
✔️ Hormone balance

That’s why we often recommend a high-quality Vitamin D3 + K2 supplement.

☀️ Vitamin D3 helps raise vitamin D levels
🦴 Vitamin K2 helps direct calcium into bones where we want it — instead of soft tissues

One important thing to remember:
Consistency matters.

If you start supplementing, give it about 3 months and then recheck your labs to see how your body responded. Not everyone absorbs or responds the same way.

And as always — supplementation should be individualized. Some people truly need it… others may not.

Have questions about your vitamin D labs or supplements?
Stop by and talk with us — we love helping patients understand what their labs actually mean. 💙

⚖️ Testosterone can absolutely be helpful for women — but MORE is NOT always better.

A lot of people hear about testosterone helping with:
✨ Energy
✨ Motivation
✨ Muscle strength
✨ Libido

And it absolutely can.

In fact, in our BHRT collaborative care program, we recommend testosterone fairly often when it’s appropriate and carefully individualized for the patient.

But we also see the other side — when testosterone levels get pushed too high.

Women may start noticing things like:
• Irritability or mood changes
• Acne
• Increased facial hair growth
• Hormone imbalance
• Even worsening insulin resistance, which can make weight management harder

One thing people don’t always realize is that many women are prescribed testosterone products originally designed for men and then told to use “a tiny amount.”

The problem?
A “tiny amount” is very hard to measure consistently.

One day may be a little more.
The next day a little less.
And hormone levels can swing because of it.

💊 This is one reason compounding can be so helpful.

At a compounding pharmacy, testosterone can be prepared in very small, precise doses designed specifically for women — allowing for more personalized and consistent therapy.

Hormones tend to work best when they’re carefully dosed and individualized — not pushed to extremes.

🎥 Watch the video to hear how we think about testosterone dosing for women.

If you’ve been part of The Medicine Store family for very long… chances are you already know Michelle. 🤍

Michelle has been with us since the very beginning in 2008, and she has been such a huge part of what makes our pharmacy special today. Her compassion, loyalty, attention to detail, and genuine care for our patients never go unnoticed.

One of the things we love most about independent pharmacy is truly knowing our patients — and Michelle is one of the biggest reasons we’re able to provide that kind of personalized care every single day. From helping patients navigate challenges to simply being a familiar, caring face, she does it all with so much heart. 💙

We are beyond thankful for everything she does for our team and our community.

Next time you stop in, make sure to say hi to Michelle 🤍

💊 Pharmacists don’t just “count pills.”

Behind every prescription is a long list of safety checks, insurance hurdles, legal requirements, patient questions, and provider collaboration happening behind the scenes every single day.

At The Medicine Store, our job is to help make sure your medications are safe, appropriate, accurate, and effective for YOU. 💙

That means:
✔️ Checking doses and directions
✔️ Looking for drug interactions
✔️ Reviewing allergies and medical history
✔️ Catching potential errors before they reach patients
✔️ Contacting providers if something doesn’t look right
✔️ Making sure prescriptions meet legal and regulatory requirements
✔️ Educating patients on how medications work and what to expect

And one of the biggest things patients don’t see? Insurance issues.

A prescription may reject because:
➡️ Insurance requires a prior authorization
➡️ It’s being filled “too soon” according to insurance rules
➡️ The medication isn’t covered
➡️ The dose or quantity exceeds insurance limits
➡️ They require a different medication first
➡️ Information on the prescription doesn’t match exactly what insurance requires

Many times, we’re on the phone with insurance companies and provider offices trying to resolve those problems for patients behind the scenes.

So if your prescription takes longer than you think it should… there’s often much more happening than simply putting pills in a bottle.

We’re one of the most accessible healthcare professionals — and we take that responsibility seriously.

We deeply respect providers and value collaboration with them every day. Our goal has never been to “get in the way” — it’s to help protect patients and support safe, effective care.

Thank you for trusting your pharmacists. 💙
