Weather Update

Hurricane Dorian is passing well offshore Friday and Saturday. A Coastal Flood Advisory is posted from 1 PM to 7 PM Friday for Salem, Cape May, Cumberland, and Atlantic Counties. A Tropical Storm Warning is posted Friday for Atlantic waters off Cape May County. A Small Craft Advisory is posted until 6 PM Saturday for coastal waters. A High Rip Current Risk and High Surf Advisory are posted for coastal areas.

Impacts to New Jersey
We expect heavy surf, gusty winds, elevated rip current risk, and some precipitation Friday. Wind gusts in southern counties may reach 25 to 45 mph with locally higher gusts. Heavy surf, high winds, and rip currents will make coastal waters dangerous. Spotty minor tidal flooding may occur Friday and Saturday at high tide. Monitor local forecasts for additional weather advisories in your area.

✅Safety Tips
🚗If your area is prone to flooding take precautions such as moving cars to higher ground.
🚧Turn Around, Don’t Drown! Even six inches of fast moving floodwater can knock you off your feet, and a depth of two feet will float your car! Never try to walk, bike or drive through flooded areas. Water may be deeper than you think!
🚫Do not attempt to drive over a flooded road. Obey traffic barriers. STOP! Turn around and go another way.
🤳Know how to contact your local power company to report an outage or downed power line. For Public Utilities Information including outage maps visit http://ready.nj.gov/plan-prepare/public-utilities.shtml
