Our 2nd spotlight today is a reminder of the symptoms of ovarian cancer.
See your doctor and seek an oncology referral if you have these symptoms almost daily for more than two weeks and they are unusual for you. Symptoms that are SUDDEN AND CONSTANT should be heeded.
Experts recommend:
• Physical exam
• Ultrasound, CT Scan or MRI Scan of the abdomen and pelvis
• Bloodwork to include CA125 tumor marker
Prompt medical evaluation may lead to detection at the earliest possible stage of the disease. Early stage diagnosis is associated with an improved prognosis.
Experts suggest surgery performed by a gynecologic oncologist, pediatric or oncologic surgeon at an academic medical center with experience in rare ovarian tumors is preferred. Ultimately, an oncologist with expertise in SCCOHT should be identified to direct the overall care plan.
