Today, I’d like to make a post dedicated to all of the available dogs who have a darker fur coat!
Ask any rescue group and they will tell you they have experienced what is known as Black Dog Syndrome. Though there isn’t a lot of research on this phenomenon, I’ve experienced it up close and personal and I know a lot of my peers in the rescue world have to.
The adoption photo sometimes is the only first real chance shelter dogs have at making a connection to the potential adopter. We know dogs and cats with darker fur coats can be harder to photograph, that’s at least one explanation.
Because of this, I’ve created and donated so many crochet dog bandanas to help black dogs shine in their photos. See last photo.
Today, help us raise the visibility of the many wonderful black dogs who are available for adoption at Multnomah County Animal Shelter.
