Sending ALL the birthday love to my dear friend MJ 🖤 If you haven’t been to The Golden Eagle Inn, you’re missing out. If you have, you probably can understand why I adore her.

So thankful for her camaraderie, support and encouragement, both personally & professionally, over the years. Equally thankful for Tom and our bonding over whiskey & life. And our kids are the best of friends, and have been for years. I couldn’t ask for more—a family like mine, also living the small-town business life, just up the street, who we’ve bonded with and can’t imagine living without.

Bonus: The Pub and the Inn are both full of Thirteen Pines finds (and Thirteen Pines gifts)—see if you can spot some next time you stop by!

Neutral is also a vibe. I know a lot of people hate on white because it’s been overdone, but textured neutrals have appeared in rural and coastal communities rooted in the natural world for centuries—probably longer. HGTV didn’t invent sun-faded wood, grey stone, or whitewash for protecting natural surfaces and keeping them looking fresh. It’s not wrong to lean into an aesthetic that speaks to deep roots and down-home ways of living.

Go all-neutral, or mix your whites, tans, browns & greys with pops of color that echo berries, wildflowers, the morning sky, the shifting water. You really can’t get it wrong.

Fun fact—the front of our building is true limewash that I mixed & applied myself, which, aside from being dirt cheap, is buildable, customizable, easy to reapply if needed, and fun to do. Not a job for kids, as hydrated lime is caustic & you need proper PPE, which I may or may not have worn, but I’m duty bound to tell you you should 🤓
