Ralphie (the "pops" in our Mom & Pop sewing shop) just finished designing and making some prototype bags commissioned by a new brand that's launching on the west coast. He claims it was fun, but we heard some swearing from time to time.

Opened alterations shop 14 years ago. Learned to sew through live classes, books, magazines, social media and just doing it and redoing it. Still learn something new everyday. Sewing is amazing!

FABRICS 101 class came about from planning future “project” classes. I have fabric for classes at the shop but I am certain some students would like to bring their own. This class is to help provide information on what you need to know to buy on-line, buy at a fabric shop or by thifting. It will be presented in lecture and show-tell and feel format.

Another sneak peak into future plans: FIELD TRIP! I am researching hiring a van and driver later this Spring to take a group of us downtown to 2 fabric shops to practice what you learn in this class. Each student who attends this class will receive a $5 discount on purchases on that trip.

Success! I have added 7 classes so far for March. This Saturday, March 7, 2026 10am-12pm will be the first "Learn to Hem Pants - dress, stretch and denim" class! Also have Junior classes on March 10 and 11, during break (for students ages 7-17) to make an envelope pillow case, pillow insert included. And on Saturday, March 14, 10am-12pm, there will be another chance to take Intro to Sewing.
Classes are limited to 6 students to provide immediate feedback as you learn.

Class size limited to 6 students. 2 hour class costs $50. Skill level: Beginner or someone who already sews but wants a refresher.

One of our customers commissioned us to make a custom "memory purse" using clothes from her recently departed mother-in-law. She brought in a selection of her clothes and we consulted with her on design options. We ended up making this custom design shoulder bag. She loves it! And now she can carry the memories with her wherever she goes. The front and back panels were made using fabric from a favorite jacket. The inside lining was made using fabric from her favorite blouses. We love the idea of keeping memories alive.

I am a seamstress. I specialize in bridal, prom and special occasion alterations. I've had my own shop in Beecher, IL 60401 for 14 years. However, exceptions have been made to include a wide variety of projects. I do this for a living but beyond that, I do it for the love of the alchemy of sewing...
