Today I learned that Claudette Colvin passed away on January 13th. That hit me deeper than I expected.
Last year, for Black History Month, I chose to write about her 👉🏾( https://youtu.be/eXtp3M8Fo7Y?si=eLYXPmQwrrcqSrQb ) because she didn’t get the recognition she deserved for the role she played in history. She was young, fearless, and unapologetic about what she knew was right—long before the cameras, the applause, or the history books caught up.
I’m grateful—truly grateful—that I was able to give her her flowers while she was still living. To speak her name out loud. To honor her courage while she could still feel the love. That matters.
Claudette Colvin stood on business when it wasn’t safe, when it wasn’t popular, and when it cost her dearly. Quiet strength. Unshakeable conviction. No performative nonsense—just truth and backbone.
As an introve
I carry that with me. And like the YouTube Channel stated, I will continue to stand on business exactly how she did for the rest of my life—whether the room is loud or silent, whether I’m seen or overlooked.
Rest well, Ms. Colvin. Your legacy is secure. Your courage lives on. And your name will never be forgotten. ✊🏾🖤
