The BNB2 (Beef-N-Burgundy Club) welcomed in a rainy March 1st with a great dinner at TUGA, Portuguese Restaurant, located just off Chung Hsiao East Road. Despite the inclement, cold weather, spirits were high, and Owner Carlos Couto and Chef Nelson Santos provided a nice gourmet meal, including uncommon Portuguese wines. Each month, we enjoy interacting with our friends in culinary and wine excellence!

BNB2(勃根地牛肉俱樂部)於 3 月 1 日在一個下雨的日子裡在位於忠孝東路旁的 Tuga 葡萄牙餐廳享用了一頓豐盛的晚餐。儘管天氣惡劣、寒冷,但大家的熱情很高漲,業主 Carlos Couto 和廚師 Nelson Santos 提供了一頓美味佳餚,包括不常見的葡萄牙葡萄酒。每個月,我們都喜歡與朋友們交流卓越的烹飪和美酒!

We are proud to welcome the Spring in, with our Wine Dinner on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at the Brasserie Bon Recolte, located in the historic Dihua Street area of Old Taipei City.
We have planned an excellent French dinner with Chef-Owner Rolf Meng, which will have some “Spring appropriate food” and some of our nicest wines that will go well in the upcoming summer months.
My suggestion would be to come to the Dihua Street area early and take a walk around, as there are many interesting shops and sites to take in, then head over to the restaurant for the Wine Dinner.
If you have been to our previous Wine Dinners, you know that it will be a great time.
Please contact me for reservations, as these dinners must be prepaid and committed.

Mardi Gras is a centuries-old tradition, which originated in the Middle Ages. It was initially celebrated by European Christians as a way to mark the beginning of Lent and to prepare for the fasting period up to Easter. The celebration was passionately adopted by French Catholics and was initially called “Boeuf Gras,” or “fatted calf.” The name “Mardi Gras,” which translates to “Fat Tuesday,” gained favor as the holiday’s preferred title, since the last day of the festival season was celebrated on the Tuesday preceding Ash Wednesday or the beginning of Lent. New Orleans was established in 1718, and by the 1730s, Mardi Gras was celebrated openly there. By the late 1830s, New Orleans held street processions of maskers with carriages and horseback riders to celebrate Mardi Gras. This was the earliest precursor to the annual extravaganza Mardi Gras celebrations in New Orleans today.

Member Jason Ray was instrumental in making this Mardi Gras celebration authentic – both from the decorations and the menu – being from Atlanta, with strong ties to New Orleans. BNB2 appreciates Jason’s efforts in making this event a success. As always, it was great to be with our brothers in fine wine and cuisine!

Since the Lunar New Year in 2024 occurs on February 10th, BNB2 decided to hold its special Mardi Gras luncheon on the last Friday in January on the 26th. This luncheon had another purpose besides celebrating Mardi Gras, and that was to present the award for “BNB2 Restaurant of the Year for 2023”! This was awarded to Owner Chef Paul Liao, of the Ad Lib Kitchen. Congratulations!

The cuisine and wine were excellent and highlighted a most memorable gathering!

On Friday, 1/5/2023, BNB2 started the gastronomic New Year with a wonderfully creative Spanish meal at Hidden, just off Guang Fu South Road in Taipei. To provide a proper balance, the meal was paired with wines from Spain. Each dish was carefully prepared and everyone agreed that the presentation of each dish was special!

We welcome anyone interested in exceptional food, paired with fine wine, and the camaraderie of great friends who share this passion for gastronomy to join us!

On Friday, 12/1/2023, BNB2 celebrated the advent of the Christmas season with its annual "La Penarda" feast at the cozy Cantina del Gio in the Chung Hsiao Area of Taipei.

The first documented Panarda, in 1657, took place in the town of Villavallelonga. According to legend, a young mother of a clan called Serafini left her infant in its crib while she went to the well for water. When she returned, the baby was clamped in the jaws of a wolf. She prayed to Saint Antonio Abate, protector of those who raise animals, and the wolf released the baby unharmed. The young woman vowed to hold a yearly feast in Saint Antonio’s honor.

Over 30 dishes were enjoyed over a period that lasted most of Friday afternoon! These were accompanied by a plethora of fine wines. Needless to say, a wonderful time was had by all, and another year of BNB2 has concluded successfully.

2023 年 12 月 1 日星期五,BNB2 在舒適的 Cantina del Gio 舉辦一年一度的「La Penarda」盛宴,慶祝聖誕節的到來。

第一個有記載的 Panarda 事件發生於 1657 年,發生在維拉瓦萊隆加 (Villavallelonga) 鎮。根據傳說,塞拉菲尼氏族的一位年輕母親將她的嬰兒留在嬰兒床上,而她去井邊打水。當她回來時,嬰兒已經被狼鉗住了。她向飼養動物的人的保護者聖安東尼奧·阿巴特祈禱,狼毫髮無傷地釋放了嬰兒。這位年輕女子發誓每年都會舉辦一場盛宴來紀念聖安東尼奧。

On Thursday, November 30, 2023, da Vinci Wine hosted the AIT – ACC Holiday Wine Dinner at the American Club, Taipei. The dinner was attended by 22 guests, and we enjoyed an excellent meal with perfectly paired wines. Many aspects of each California wine, Introducing Holiday Wine Traditions, Ordering wine in restaurants, and Pairing high-end wines with special dishes were presented. One special aspect was presenting a recipe for “mulled” wine, which is a European Christmas tradition. The Wines and the Food pairing can be viewed on the event DM. It was a great way to start the Holiday season!

On Saturday, October 7, 2023, da Vinci Wine participated in the Wine Bazaar of the American Club Taipei. We placed an excellent sampling of the various varietals and vintages from the Cline Family Cellars (Sonoma) – Zinfandel, Mourvedre’, Viognier, Pinot Noir, & Sauvignon Blanc; Terlato (Napa) – Federalist Chardonnay, HANNA Sauvignon Blanc, Sanford Rose of Pinot Noir, Federalist Zinfandel, Federalist Bourbon Barrel-Aged Cabernet Sauvignon, Iconoclast Cabernet Sauvignon, and Rutherford Hills Cabernet Sauvignon; and Matchbook Wines (Dunnigan Hills, Zamora) – Arsonist Red Blend & Chardonnay, Petit Sirah, Petit Verdot, and Pillars of Hercules. However, since this was a long National Holiday weekend, the crowd was somewhat less than expected. Attendees enjoyed a great selection of wine.

The New Taipei Beef-and-Burgundy Club had a very innovative meal at the Ad Lib Kitchen on Civic Boulevard, near the Chien Kuo Overpass on Friday lunch, 10/6/2023. Chef Paul put out a very creative dining experience, however, his Goat Cheese Flan, and Red Wine Braised Boneless Short Ribs were outstanding. It’s always nice to see our fellow BNB members enjoying great food, wine, and camaraderie!

On Friday evening, September 1, 2023, the New Taipei Beef-N-Burgundy, experienced a wonderful dinner at Cuisine Bourgeois in DaZhr. Chef Joseph served a delicious meal, and the wine flowed freely. Our Club is always friendly and collegial – and provides a way for Club members to gather to enjoy a 5-Star meal at another “boutique” restaurant in Taipei.
A wonderful time was had by all.
