Rabbit🐇Rabbit …
The first day of May ... my day to remember a very special friend.
The first day of May was always just another day ... until I opened my front door early in the morning. There on the steps, I'd always find a teeny tiny basket filled with teeny tiny jonquils, violas, a flowering twig or two, often with a fresh sprig of rosemary or sage, and a few candies alongside for good measure. Every May 1st for 14 years!
It didn't take very long to realize that my very dear friend, Heather, was behind these greetings of Spring. She would put the May Day baskets together using the flowers and vegetation from her yard. Come the very early morning hours of May 1st, she would sneak into her friend's driveways and leave these colorful bouquets on our front steps.
Unfortunately, Heather passed away in August 2013; very suddenly, very unexpectedly ... and very devastating. Rather than be sad with ‘what was’, I'd rather share this story with you as a way to celebrate and remember, with joy, our friends. And perhaps, just perhaps, inspire you to create your own May Day basket to give to your true friends, a special someone, a neighbor. These ‘tiny’ acts of kindness do mean so very much!
