"Repair is an often-overlooked aspect of circularity. For YKK, repair, along with durability, are two key components in our long-term goal to become a circular company."
- Brian La Plante
Senior Manager Sustainability
YKK Global Marketing Group

Circularity doesn't happen in theory- it happens when we work together. We're teaming up with YKK to show how high-quality hardware and skilled repair can keep gear in use longer. You'll see YKK in new storytelling that shows the role of repair in reducing waste and extending the life of the products we love. Grateful to be building a more repair-forward outdoor industry, together.

Repair isn’t a trend- it’s climate infrastructure.
Join us at ISPO on Dec 1 at 3 PM as we bring together leaders shaping the future of circularity across policy, design, sustainability, and community.

Our panel features experts driving real change across the outdoor industry. From advancing EU sustainability policy, to pioneering repair-ready design, building circular supply chains, and activating communities around long-lasting gear. Together, they represent the interconnected systems required to make repair visible, viable, and scalable.

Moderated by Rugged Thread Founder & CEO Kim Kinney, this conversation explores how repair reduces waste, extends the life of gear, supports brand trust, and strengthens climate resilience.

See you Dec 1 in the Sustainability Hall. Let’s build the future of repair, together.

Special thanks to our sponsors!

When this beloved Camp 7 jacket came to us with a damaged center front zipper and decades of adventures that span nearly 50 years, our customer wasn’t just looking for a fix, he was looking to bring a piece of history back to life.

Swipe to see:
1. A photo of the zipper damage
2. A photo of him rocking the jacket back in the day (1974 or ‘75)
3. A photo from London 1977.
4. The jacket fully repaired and ready for more memories!

His words say it best : “so great to have this old standby back.”

Got something worth holding onto? Let us help you keep it going.

There are times where we get too deep in deconstructing and mid-repair before we realize we should have taken before photos and videos to show the scope of the work, but trust us when we say that this jacket’s transformation was major!
Repairs like these take time, precision and a whole lot of deconstruction and planning. This Montcler jacket came in needing a complete overhaul. Our team rebuilt it from the inside out: adding custom gussets for a better fit, replacing multiple zippers (including the center front which also needed a patch on the draft flap), and refreshing worn Velcro.
This jacket is now ready for another winter season!

Week 10 of our Meet the Team series: Meet Julie!

Julie has been part of the Rugged Thread team for over four years, and she’s the one quietly keeping everything running behind the scenes. In addition to her role as a repair technician, she also handles ticket check; making sure each incoming item is properly inspected, logged, and clearly labeled so our team knows exactly what needs to be done.

She also keeps us stocked and ready by ordering fabric, thread, and essential repair supplies for the entire team, ensuring we can work efficiently without missing a beat.

Julie’s repair work often includes bulk jobs with repeated wear-and-tear issues, and she’s especially experienced with Nomex wildland fire gear or bull Kuiu items with a wide range of work. Her precision, consistency, and deep knowledge of gear repair make her a cornerstone of our shop.

As we wrap up this series, we’re proud to highlight the people who bring skill, care, and life to every repair, and Julie embodies that to the fullest.

Modifying your gear to fit your needs is one of the best parts of repair! It adds life, personality, and purpose to pieces you already love.

This customer brought in a well-loved Carhartt jacket and asked us to give it a few personalized modifications. First up: he sourced a second jacket so we could swap the corduroy collar then we added a center front storm flap to cover the zipper, complete with snaps!

Week 8 of our Meet the Team series: Meet Katrina!!

In just 6 months, Katrina has become an essential part of our workflow, keeping things running smoothly from intake to finished repair.
She’s often the one greeting customers, organizing incoming repairs, managing shipments, and inspecting finished gear before it leaves the shop. She’s a pro at juggling logistics, admin tasks and customer service with genuine care.
She’s also stepped up to create our brand-new customer newsletter- a fun way for us to connect, share updates, and celebrate repair successes.
From tracking deadlines and handling invoicing, to sourcing materials and making sure the repair queue flows smoothly, Katrina is at the heart of what keeps Rugged Thread running smoothly and efficiently.
We’re lucky to have her on the team!

Not all car seats need to be tossed, sometimes they just need a small, safe fix.

This one came in after a mouse chewed through one of the straps. Fortunately, this is a repair we can absolutely fix.
Car seats are tricky when it comes to sustainability. Most can’t be resold, especially if they are expired or have been in an accident.

In Oregon, there aren’t many curbside options for recycling them, and unfortunately many end up in the landfills. But when damage is minor, like in the case of this strap, we are able to help extend its life safely. And when repair isn’t an option, programs like ‘s Car Seat Trade-In program can help them out of the trash.

Week 6 of our Meet the Team series: Meet Lulu!

Lulu wears many hats at Rugged Thread- splitting her time between front-of-house in-taking items, helping customers to hands-on repair work.
She’s often the first to hear the story behind why a piece matters to someone, and in many cases, she’s also the one who repairs it and hands it back to them, good as new!

From jackets to backpacks to tents and oddball items, Lulu handles it all with precision and care. She’s always willing to tackle tough items, ready to help in any task and brings both skill and heart to everything she does.

We love how she connects the full circle: listening, repairing, and returning gear that’s ready for the next adventure.

We’re so lucky to have her!
