Funny how something can hang in a closet for years and still be right on time.

Some things aren’t meant to be rushed.
They’re meant to be cherished. ❤️

Two years ago, I announced I was writing a book.

Then life happened.

The dream never left. The timeline just changed.

I’m officially picking back up The Melanin Hostess™ and bringing you along for the journey from manuscript to launch.

If you love hosting, entertaining, gathering with friends and family, creating memorable experiences, and making people feel welcome, you’re in the right place.

Tell me: Have you ever put a dream on pause and come back to it later?

After years of sewing on domestic machines, it’s finally time to invest in my first industrial sewing machine.

If you had a budget of $2,000–$5,000, what would you buy and why?

Juki, Brother, Singer, or Consew? Tell me what you’re sewing on and what you love about it.

If you’re thinking about making the trip to the Book Warehouse Outlet in Easley, South Carolina, my vote is yes.

I spent about 3 hours in the store and could have stayed longer. The checkout line looked intimidating, but it only took about 30 minutes to get through. The staff and volunteers were incredibly friendly, helpful, and organized considering the number of people there.

A few things I learned:
✔ Wear comfortable shoes
✔ Bring water
✔ Dress cool
✔ Take wipes
✔ Bring a wagon or reusable bags
✔ Pack your patience

It was crowded, hot, and absolutely worth the drive.

I found several books from my TBR list, picked up my first Freida McFadden novels, added a few “judge a book by its cover” purchases, and of course couldn’t leave Octavia Butler behind.

One book literally fell off the shelf, so naturally I took that as a sign.

And yes, I had my entire haul added to Goodreads before I even made it back to Birmingham. 😂

A little fun fact about me: I used to have a book club. Life shifted, priorities changed, and I eventually had to put it down. But I never stopped reading. Walking through rows and rows of books reminded me just how much I still love getting lost in a good story.

If you’re a reader, the last weekend of the month is the time to go because everything is 70% off. Check their website for current details before you make the trip.

And yes… I’d make the drive from Alabama and do it all over again.

“She looks amazing.”
“Absolutely amazing.”
“Amazing fabric.”
Apparently my vocabulary left the building the minute I saw this dress 😂

But honestly… when a client trusts me with a vision THIS good, I get excited every single time. From the fabric to the final fit, this custom look came together beautifully and LaDonna wore it exactly how it deserved to be worn.

And yes… I really did ask if she was AI for a second because LOOK AT HER 😭✨

Custom clothing is different when it’s designed specifically for you.

Sewn for Sunday 💅🏾

Used some fabric from my stash and turned it into this week’s Sunday outfit. And honestly, I really do love being able to make exactly what I want to wear.

There are moments as a parent that you never forget… and this will always be one of them.

One week ago today, my daughter graduated from Duke University with a double PhD. Two hooding ceremonies. Years of sacrifice, pressure, long nights, disappointments, victories, and perseverance wrapped into one unforgettable weekend.

There were moments during the journey where they tried to convince her to “master out,” but she stayed the course anyway. She stood firm in who she is and what she came there to do.

And while not everyone could physically be there, every single one of us showed up however we could…in person, through livestreams, FaceTimes, prayers, encouragement, and love.

We are all so incredibly proud of you. 🤍

Formal alterations are not just about taking something in. It’s about structure, balance, and making the garment move with you.

LaDonna trusted me through multiple fittings while her body changed leading up to her event and this is the result.

Clean. Intentional. Finished.

If your outfit isn’t fitting the way it should… it just hasn’t been tailored properly yet.

Some patterns stay with you.
Not because they’re trendy, but because they still fit your life.

This dress has walked with me through more than one season. I made it years ago, wore it in a different chapter, and I still wanted to make it again.

This time, it was remade with intention.
Chosen for presence.
Worn for church.

There’s something beautiful about showing up thoughtfully, even in what we wear.
