True.
Last night I dreamed I took a breathe unknown to me, my last.
My life on Earth had finished its course,
but my soul, to Heaven, was cast.
I was led up to the Pearly Gates, with the Lord who held my hand.
I trembled at the sight I saw; a most beautiful and wonderful land.
A crowd of Saints had been assembled, and rejoiced as we approached.
Some faces I could recognize, but unfamiliar were the most.
One handed me the largest book these eyes have ever seen.
The title said “A Book of Prayers”, and the author, I saw, was me.
Every single prayerful word from “Dear Father” to “Amen”
had been recorded in this book for me to read again.
Next I was offered up a chair to sit at the tables head,
though I didn’t feel I deserved that seat, I would have preferred to stand instead.
But Jesus, as if to read my mind, said, “Child please come and sit,
For these people at this table wait to thank you for your gift.”
“What gift?” I asked for I did not know the faces that smiled my way.
“The gift of knowing me” he said “that’s why they’re here today.”
“I’m sorry,” I said, “they must be mistaken, for I never preached a word.”
But Jesus said, “the life you lived was better than any sermon”
“You see the way you walked and spoke was modeled after me,
And became a blessing in the lives of the people you now see.”
“And although you didn’t know their names you blessed them just the same,
And now they walk on streets of gold because you shared with them my name.”
I woke with tears along my face because I knew I had work to do,
And I prayed to the Lord to give me strength to make that dream come true. “
