Your Technicians Make Expensive Decisions

Your technicians make expensive decisions every day.

They decide which chemistry to use.

How much to use.

How aggressive to get.

Whether a spot can be removed.

Whether carpet can be saved.

What to tell the customer.

There is a big difference between:

five years of experience

and

one year of experience repeated five times.

Time alone doesn't make someone an expert.

Learning does.

Understanding does.

Being willing to ask why does.

If carpet cleaning is your profession, learn the science behind the work.

We're going to connect the principles to actual jobs:

Stop Memorizing Procedures

Do you know how to clean carpet, or do you know the procedure your company taught you?

There is a difference.

Use this prespray.
Run the machine at this setting.
Make these passes.
Use this spotter when you see that stain.

That works until something doesn't behave normally.

Then what?

Professional carpet cleaning isn't about memorizing a collection of recipes.

It's understanding:

What am I cleaning?

What kind of fiber is it?

What type of soil am I dealing with?

What is my chemistry actually doing?

What variable should I change?

What could I damage if I get too aggressive?

Why did that spot come back?

On September 20–21, I’ll be teaching the IICRC Carpet Cleaning Technician (CCT) course live in Boise.

We'll cover the IICRC curriculum, but my goal isn't merely to help you pass a test.

I want you to understand why carpet cleaning works.

I've spent years cleaning carpet, troubleshooting difficult jobs, training technicians and running a cleaning operation. The textbook matters. So does understanding what happens when the textbook meets somebody's living room.
