When you can’t find the perfect garment that you’ve been dreaming of, we’re here for you! The custom sewing process combines our detailed craftsmanship with your unique vision for an exquisite piece that is totally your own.

Our process starts with a consultation where Erin can help guide all your wild ideas into a realistic plan. With a plan and budget in place, the creative construction process can begin! While every garment is different, you can expect this process to take a few months. So now is the time to start thinking about any custom clothing that you’d want to wear in 2027!

While everyone is celebrating our country’s 250th anniversary this weekend, we’re also celebrating the important role that sewing has played in our country’s history for the last 250 years!

You may have heard that Betsy Ross designed & made America’s first flag. But there’s so much more to this story - in myth and fact (or lack thereof).

The myth goes that George Washington specifically requested to meet with Ross in 1776. At the time, Washington & his generals were considering using 6 pointed stars on the flag, which Ross advised against. During this meeting she quickly folded a single piece of paper and with one snip of scissors made a perfect 5 pointed star. These expert folding skills so impressed Washington & his generals that they asked her to make the first American flag.

The facts tell a slightly different story. There’s no definitive documentation about who desgined the American flag or who sewed the first one. What the facts do show is that by 1777 Betsy Ross’s upholstery business was being paid to create “ships colours” which we would now understand to be flags. 50 years later, her grandson shared his story creating the myth and cementing her place in American history.

Like Betsy Ross, you won’t hear most of the tales that come out of our sewing room here at sewBoise but we hope you’re just as impressed by the quality that we create as George Washington (supposedly) was.

If you’ve visited the shop this year, you’ll have been greeted by our newest shop assistant Amy. In honor of her upcoming birthday, here’s a few fun facts about her:

đŸ“·Photography is her passion! Amy previously spent 8 years as a wedding photographer and still works with Treefort Music Fest’s volunteer photography team.

đŸȘĄShe’s an avid crafter. While she’s tried her hands at lots of crafts, her current favorites are embroidery & pottery.

đŸ§”She’s our only non-sewist, but not for long! Amy’s excited to finally be expanding her childhood sewing knowledge into actual sewing projects. She just completed her first project, a reversible toddler’s apron for her nephew.

đŸ˜»A perfect afternoon would be a sunny nap alongside her cat, Zephyr.

Say hi to Amy and the rest of our amazing team at your next sewBoise appointment!
