When people hear of trafficking, they often imagine children being snatched off the streets, packaged in shipping crates, or being auctioned off online. These stories may be spread by well-meaning people but in most scenarios are not the case. In fact, perpetrators often take time to build relationships with their victims as a means to control them. The Polaris Project, an organization that helps fight against human trafficking, has an interesting section on rumors vs reality. They talk about the common rumors like "white vans" and "trafficking kids in overpriced cabinets". Google "Polaris Project rumor vs reality" for all the examples.
