The Show Stopper outfit at the Suhana by Kalpana fashion show took inspiration from Odisha’s world famous appliqué style known as Pipili Chandua work. The appliqué design on the skirt is complete with intricate stone work. The artisans reflected the finest karigari of Zardozi work on striking red pure organza Dupatta. The silver metal thread design is an inspiration from filigree work of Odisha. The lehenga skirt and blouse is made out of pure silk. The traditional design is complemented by the off-shoulder blouse giving a contemporary look. We thank the Karigars who spent decades perfecting a craft handed down from the generations before. These Karigars put in considerable effort to make this design to reality.

We also thank the stunning show stopper Nikita Gantayet, who did complete justice to the piece at the Suhana by Kalpana fashion show at Harrah’s Casino Resort, in Atlantic City.

Modeled by Nikita Gantayet, title winner of MISS South Asia Canada 2017 & MISS Bollywood Diva.

This stunning off-white Anarkali lehenga draws inspiration from Lucknow stitch, Gota work, and Mukaish work. The Anarkali kurti is made out of georgette, embellished with handmade Chikankari embroidery and golden Gota patti work. The dupatta is fine georgette with golden Mukaish handwork all over. The outfit is complemented by the sateen silk lehenga skirt with golden frills.

This beautiful, pure silk outfit was inspired by Odissi dance jewelry called “Kamar Patti” and silver filigree work from Odisha. The intricate handwork on the lehenga and dupatta was done by skilled artisans using Zardosi and Mukaish metal thread work. The modern twist to the outfit lies in how the blouse is wrapped - an inspiration from a traditional method of wrapping clothes by women in olden times.

Inspired by Odissi dance and scripts on temple walls, this Indian ethnic gown reflects modernity as well as ancient tradition. The outfit is made out of silk and is scribed by hand in Sanskrit with verses from the ancient poem Gita Govinda. The silver colored flowers on the border are an homage to the centuries old filigree work perfected by artisans in Odisha.
