The School of Fashion Design is the only educational institution in New England dedicated exclusively to the study of fashion design. We provide students with a solid foundation in apparel design and construction, and the skills required for a successful career in fashion. Come meet our expert faculty, check out our studio workrooms, and experience our hands-on classes. Convenient Back Bay location, accessible by public transportation.

We value the fine craft of a well-made garment and believe that fashion design is a learned skill that can be mastered through education and disciplined practice. Renowned for our teaching expertise and technical rigor of our professional skills training, SFD is a private, nonprofit studio school offering our signature Certificate in Fashion Design. SFD also offers year-round creative workshops in various textile arts, as well as a High School fashion program.

⚪ Yesterday the fashion community lost a true icon. Yolanda Cellucci was a local fashion legend, devoted family matriarch, and pillar of generosity to her community. She was a true friend to SFD. Always dedicated to supporting local talent, Yolanda hosted SFD students and alumni on her local access TV show.
⚪ Last year we were honored to share a 90th birthday celebration for both Yolanda and SFD, and in her true spirit of giving, Yolanda used the occasion to launch an SFD scholarship in her name to support our students.
⚪ She spent hours on her white high heeled feet taking countless photos with all her fans; always generous with her time and smile. We are forever grateful for her support and friendship, and will truly miss her warmth, wit, and of course… signature white garment style.

🍂 Did you know, SFD offers evening classes to help you begin and continue your fashion education while balancing school, work, family, or other responsibilities!
🪡 Construction Clothing 1 instructs students on how to cut, hand sew, and use an industrial machine! Students are also trained in lining, pressing, detailing, and finishing. Students will learn how to sew together a model skirt and blouse! |||| Mondays & Wednesdays, 8:45AM - 10:30AM OR 5:30PM - 7:15PM.
🧵 Pattern Making 1 introduces students to the principles, techniques and practice of draft flat patterns for women's garments! Students learn how to create block drafts, slopers & patterns, and how to modify them to create different type of skirts and blouses! |||| Mondays & Wednesdays, 10:45AM - 12:30PM OR 7:30PM - 9:15PM.

✨ Our students are simply incredible!
🧵 SFD student Yazan A.F. enrolled in our summer Construction & Patternmaking level 1, and took it upon himself to modify our Construction 1 blouse with techniques he learned during his Patternmaking course to create a blouse that would fit him!
💛 Yazan, this is amazing! We can not wait to see what you make in the future!

👚 For their finals, Construction Level 1 students are tasked with sewing together a model skirt and blouse!
🧵 From these projects, students learn and gain a toolbox of foundational sewing techniques that will give them the confidence to carry on with more advanced sewing projects in the future!

🌟 Meet Lisa Micheels, one of SFD instructors!
🧵 Lisa has extensive experience as a theatrical costumer working in professional theatres across the country. She has taught fashion and theatre-based classes in the Boston area since 1989. In 1992, she launched her Very Eclectic Clothing line of hand-painted clothing and accessories. Today, Very Eclectic is a thriving collection of hand-painted scarves, yarn, shawl pins, and buttons sold online and at fine craft and fiber shows throughout the Northeast.
🍂 During Fall 2026, Lisa will be teaching Couture Detail, and Fundamentals of Textiles!
🪡 Couture Detail teaches students the finishes that will give their designs the refined look of haute couture! From ruffles to embroidery, explore many techniques and embellish an upcycled little black dress as your final project! | MONDAYS 9:00 AM - 12:30 PM
👚 Fundamentals of Textiles offers a necessary comprehensive understanding of the fibers and fabrics students will work with as fashion designers. Students will learn to identify fabrics, understand their use, and how to take care of them appropriately. | THURSDAYS, 9:00 AM - 12:30 PM
