Dorchester, a grand place to be caught dead. It was even established a few months before Boston in 1630. Where will you lay your bones? (skeleton, ashes, dust, carbon cube, pretty stone jewelry, new tree, fronto king??)

If not Dorchester, where will DEAD YOU be spending eternity?

MEMENTO MORI-----Design...

BACK : The Crown: a line drawing of the crown atop the head of the armor of the Black Prince at his resting place/tomb inside Canterbury Cathedral. (digital art from my photos)

Winged skull, memorial for British Naval Captain William Julius interred in Westminster Abbey, (UK) 1698. The plaque notes that he is interred near it's location. (digital art from my photos)

FRONT: Colonial death's head from an early 18th century tombstone buried for over 250 years underneath a historic crypt, being used as rubble, holding up to 20 coffins and remains above it. Discovered by archaeologists, cleaned up and pieced together by me. (digital art from my photos)

1.) The Dorchester North Burying Ground

First laid out in 1634, it is the final resting place of two colonial governors. It also contains the graves of John Foster; the first printer in Boston; 40 unknown Revolutionary War soldiers; and three African-American slaves.

2.) Dorchester South Burying Ground

Located in the Lower Mills neighborhood in Dorchester, this cemetery opened in 1814 to alleviate overcrowding in Dorchester North. Edmund Baker, of the famous chocolate firm in Lower Mills, headed the committee that purchased the cemetery property. Many Dorchester residents are interred here, as is Henry L. Pierce, mayor of Boston and benefactor of Harvard College.
